Custom IR Capture & Licensing

Preserving the Soul of Spaces Through Sound

Sound travels through architecture like memory through time. At Sound.Codes, we specialize in capturing the impulse responses (IRs) of acoustically and culturally significant spaces—temples carved into basalt, subterranean meditation halls, forgotten Sufi dargahs, colonial libraries, Himalayan monasteries, coastal forts, and vernacular mud-walled shrines.

These recordings, which we call Acoustic Signatures, are not just data—they’re time capsules. When applied to your own audio through convolution reverb, they transport your sound into another era, another atmosphere, another world.

How It Works

We use Kaan, our proprietary binaural microphone, designed with an anatomically accurate human ear canal. This enables ultra-realistic spatial capture—beyond traditional stereo IRs—resulting in impulse responses that carry not just echo and decay, but embodied resonance.

Our process includes:

  • Site scouting and acoustic profiling
  • Multiple IR techniques: sine sweep, starter pistol, balloon pop, and field-specific calibration
  • Post-processing and format delivery (mono, stereo, binaural, ambisonic-compatible)
  • Custom convolution plugin integration on request
Use Cases

Our impulse responses have been integrated into:

  • Museum and heritage center installations
  • VR/AR historical recreations
  • Film and game sound design (for authentic spatial reverb)
  • Contemporary music production
  • Academic and architectural research

Imagine scoring a film with the acoustics of a 16th-century cave temple. Or letting a museum visitor experience a voice echoing through the now-ruined dome of a forgotten durgah.

Licensing Models

We offer flexible models to suit your needs:

  • Exclusive IR Capture
You commission us to record a specific space, and retain exclusivity over the results—ideal for cinematic, branding, or high-value experiences.
  • Non-exclusive Custom IRs
We create impulse responses tailored to your project (e.g., a general “Stone Temple South India” or “Himalayan Shrine”), and you license them non-exclusively.
  • Open-access Institutional Projects
For museums, universities, or cultural trusts, we co-develop and co-publish the impulse response packs as part of public-access acoustic heritage efforts.
  • Bulk Licensing
If you're building a sound engine, game platform, or IR-based plugin, we offer thematic collections and high-volume pricing.

A Sonic Archive in Progress

We are actively building one of India’s first indigenous IR libraries, focusing on acoustic spaces overlooked by global reverb libraries. These include:

  • Jain and Brahmanical caves of Maharashtra
  • Baolis (stepwells) of Gujarat and Rajasthan
  • Temples of the Hoysala and Chola periods
  • Indo-Saracenic and Art Deco architecture
  • Forest shrines and ritual spaces with ephemeral structures

Let’s Work Together

If your project involves cultural preservation, immersive sound, or spatial storytelling, let’s collaborate.

We don’t just capture reverberations—we capture presence.
